Work is ongoing at the new play area at The Old Showfield, Frome, with trees and grasses recently planted to improve drainage at the site. The opening of the playground is anticipated in early 2024, returning the play area to this much-valued, multifunctional community space. Councillor Mark Dorrington said:

"It's been fantastic to work with Green Play Project to make the Old Showfield playground an even better and more accessible space for the whole community. Thanks to everyone who responded to our survey in July and who helped us in the planning stages: we look forward to welcoming you back to the playground to see your ideas turned into reality. The Old Showfield is the largest green space in Frome, the home of Parkrun Frome, popular with walkers with and without dogs, users of the outdoor gym, and hosts regular football and cricket matches. A great community space deserves a great playground, and we hope the new park will be enjoyed by everyone; a truly accessible space for all young people."

Frome Town Council have worked with Bristol-based playground specialists Green Play Project on the upgrade of the playground, which will incorporate existing play equipment with elements including a wider, more accessible slide, shelter, seating, soft-close gates and a new sandpit and climbing frame. Work at the Old Showfield site is ongoing, ahead of the opening of the new and improved play area to the public in early 2024.
