In a new partnership between Frome charity, Purple Elephant, and youth and community support charity, Young Somerset, Purple Elephant is delighted to announce the successful opening of a new Youth Club for 8-13 year olds who live in Frome and adjoining villages.
Based at The Key Centre, the club's sessions, which started in November, are led by an experienced team of youth workers offering weekly evenings of fun for energetic, creative and fun-loving children and young people. Engaging activities and games also include a quiet space, sensory resources, gaming and life-skills sessions such as cookery, budgeting, healthy lifestyles and relationships – all run in a fun way, naturally!
As Mark Burgess, the club's Coordinator, explains, "We'll be shaping the club and all we do together with the young people who attend. Their input has already made our first few sessions a lot of fun so we will be welcoming more ideas from Frome's fantastic young people. This is their club and it is their ownership that is informing how the club runs. As a team of professional youth workers, we are also here to support mental health and wellbeing and to give young people something positive to do plus, vitally, somewhere safe to be."
Funded by Frome Town Council, the National Lottery Community Fund and Somerset Community Foundation, the club is looking for additional volunteers to help run sessions and would love to hear from interested adults (applicants will need to follow a safe recruitment process, including a DBS check).
Adults will need to specify exact arrangements for collecting young people from the club and, to ensure that the club's membership capacity is not exceeded, parents/carers are required, where possible, to get in touch, ahead of joining, via email [email protected]
