Frome care home resident fulfils storytelling dream with local school children

A care home resident in Frome has had her wish granted, as she recently enjoyed the opportunity to read to a group of local school children.
When the team at Care UK's Rossetti House, on Welshmill Lane, learned that 95-year-old resident Ruth Bramston, who has always had a passion for storytelling and reading, was keen to read to school children, they were determined to fulfil the wish for her.
The team got to work right away and arranged for a group from St Louis Catholic Primary School to visit Rossetti House, where Ruth had the opportunity to read to a group of pupils, from year 5. During the session, all the students listened as Ruth recited the tales of the bad-tempered ladybird.
Ruth made her wish on the care home's Wishing Tree, a special Care UK initiative that enables residents to revisit old hobbies and passions or try something completely new. Whether it's a fish and chip supper, a skydive or watching a football match, no wish is too big or small for the team to try and grant.
Reflecting on her special day, Ruth said: "It was quite the occasion, it was lovely to see all their faces and they were so beautifully behaved."
Phil Vale, General Manager at Rossetti House, said: "We are delighted to have been able to make Ruth's wish come true, fulfilled her wish to read to local school children. It was lovely to see how happy the visit made her and how engaged the children were in her storytelling.
"Here at Rossetti House, we understand how important it is for residents to lead fulfilling lives and giving Ruth the opportunity to read to schoolchildren is just one example of how we do this. We were so happy to be able to witness Ruth share her love for reading with the children and creating such a memorable experience both for her and the children.
"I'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone at St Louis Catholic Primary School for their visit. Ruth was truly in her element and hasn't stopped talking about it since!"
