Eligible voters in the Somerton and Frome constituency going to the polls on Thursday 20 July to elect a new MP are being reminded to bring photo ID to their polling station.

People voting in person in the Parliamentary by election must bring a form of Voter ID such as a passport, older person's bus pass or their driving licence. Those without appropriate ID, who applied for a Voter Authority Certificate (VAC) must bring that document.

No ID will mean voters will not be able to cast their ballot and will be turned away. They can return with the appropriate photographic proof of identity. The Electoral Commission has an online list of acceptable ID.

People who applied for a postal vote but have not yet returned it can hand it in to their local polling station on 20 July. Postal votes do not need Voter ID.

Polling cards have been sent to all those eligible to vote – it contains useful information about photo ID and the location of their polling station. It's not essential to bring the card to vote. Somerset Council has a useful online guide to polling day here

Polling stations open at 7am and will close at 10pm. The by election count will be held overnight at the Royal Bath and West Showground and the result will be uploaded to Somerset Council's website here
