Mendip District Council is to offer free parking at its pay and display car parks until August 6.

The move means 40 council-run car parks across Wells, Frome, Glastonbury, Street and Shepton Mallet remain free to use for a further seven weeks.

Charges were suspended by the district council on March 26, to support communities and key workers during lockdown.

Mendip is also making market stallholders a rent-free offer this summer in a bid to boost businesses and build back confidence in the shopping centres.

All those operating in the markets managed by Mendip will trade for free throughout June and July. The decision will be reviewed on a month-by-month basis, for up to six months.
