A performing arts charity that's helped hundreds of children experience the magic of theatre is expanding to Somerset—and calling on people in Glastonbury to get involved.

The Kevin Cruise Foundation, which has supported young people across Berkshire with theatre trips, workshops and performing arts scholarships, is now growing its work in Somerset. The team say they're especially keen to connect with local charities, schools, and fundraisers in Glastonbury who want to help make live theatre accessible to all.

The expansion is a personal one for founder Martin Cabble-Reid, best known for his comedy character Kevin Cruise. Martin recently returned to live in Somerset—where his own love for theatre first began—and says the move inspired the charity's next chapter.

"Growing up in a small village, I never thought a life on stage was possible," he said. "But with support and hard work, it happened. Now, we want to open that door for other kids—whether they're performers, techies, or just want to enjoy the magic of live theatre."

The Foundation is already working with schools, youth clubs and hospices across the county, offering:

  • Free performing arts workshops
  • Funded theatre trips for families who can't afford to go
  • Scholarship support and mentoring for talented young people
  • A focus on inclusion, especially for children with SEND or from disadvantaged backgrounds

In Glastonbury, they're now looking for local causes, children, and creatives to support, along with anyone willing to help raise money or volunteer time. Whether it's a coffee morning, a birthday fundraiser or a school talent show, the team say every penny raised goes directly into creating experiences that stay with children for life.

Behind the scenes, the Foundation is driven by the friendship and teamwork of Martin and Lisa Hunter, who runs the charity day to day.

"Martin sends me voice notes full of brilliant ideas and I turn them into action plans," Lisa laughed. "We're both passionate about what we do—and we've seen just how much of a difference it makes."

Together, they've already helped children access theatre school scholarships, boosted confidence through performance, and gifted hundreds of panto tickets at Christmas—something Martin hopes to expand even further.

"I still remember the pantomimes I saw as a kid," he said. "They're part of who I am. Through the Foundation, I want to give that gift to as many children as possible."

Lisa added: "What we do might not be life-saving, but it's life-enhancing. The memories we help create bring families closer and spark joy that lasts for years."

If you're in Glastonbury and want to get involved—whether as a fundraiser, volunteer, donor, or community partner, you can visit www.kevincruisefoundation.org.uk or email the team directly. They're especially keen to hear from local schools, charities, and young people who might benefit from support.

"This is about joy, connection and opportunity," Martin said. "And Somerset's the perfect place to build something magical."
