Frome motorists have been reacting to the latest hike in the price of petrol with some weary and bitter resignation.

When Frome Nub News posted a photo of today (June 8's) prices at the pumps of the Texaco near to Frome station, many just said this was becoming normal.

One other comment was that this was NOT the highest price in Frome, the prices at the Esso at Nunney Catch was even more.

All a far cry from March 23 when the Chancellor announced a 5p cut to fuel duty which is still in force - but clearly not having any impact.

Which is worrying because that cut was only the second time fuel duty had been cut in twenty years.

The price of petrol saw its biggest daily jump in 17 years on Tuesday this week with a rise of more than 2p a litre, according to the RAC.

The motoring organisation said the average cost of filling a typical family car with petrol was now £99.40.

It warned the cost could exceed £100 as soon as Thursday.

RAC fuel spokesperson Simon Williams said the accelerating costs of forecourt fuel was "unprecedented", adding it appeared prices were "still some way from the peak".

The prices have been going up pretty much relentlessly for many months. THIS was the price at the pumps in Beckington in November 2021.
