Also approved - details reserved by condition 5/part (archaeology) on planning consent for a three bedroomed home at 26 Linkmead in Stratton on the Fosse (Reference 2020/0732/FUL). The proposed site lies along the Fosse Way, the principal Roman road which once linked Exeter to Lincoln, and in the past 500 bronze coins were found nearby dating from the early 4th century. Back in 1998, pupils at nearby Downside Abbey School, helped discover what was believed to have been a possible Roman villa nearby. In planning applications made to Mendip District Council this week: In Laverton, at land on Portway, an application is in for Prior Approval for a proposed change of use of an agricultural building into a house (Class C3), along with associated operational development. Details under Ref. No: 2021/0793/PAA At Chapel House on Foghamshire Lane in Trudoxhill, they have applied to replace their front door . Details under Ref. No: 2021/0374/LBC. Tree works, and the homeowners at The Old Parsonage in Buckland Dinham have applied to fell a Sorbus and a Laurel along with some other shrubs. The application is under Ref. No: 2021/0791/TCA . And at Birds Cottage, on Little Green in Mells they have applied to fell their Beech tree. Open for comments under Ref. No: 2021/0769/TCA . Meantime over in Cheddar, plans for a glamping site on the edge of Cheddar have been given the green light by Sedgemoor District Council. A planning application for the change of use of land to a glamping site with five bell-tents and the siting of a mobile toilet/shower block, together with laying of hard-standing and creation of a willow screen at Owley, Bradley Cross, Cheddar, had been submitted by Mrs Tyler. The application site comprises of a currently un-used field parcel, which forms part of the landholding associated with the property, Owley, which lies at the northern end of Bradley Cross. The land is accessed from an unmade track, which forms part of the West Mendip Way, which runs along the northern boundary of the site. The plans will provide five high-quality glamping, fully-equipped, bell-tents together with an ancillary mobile toilet and shower block. The bell-tents themselves will be finished of a non-reflective off-white canvas and will be placed around the field such that their visibility within the landscape will be minimal. The toilet and shower block will be sited in the lower section of the field where it will benefit from screening as a result of an existing mature hedgerow. Cheddar Parish Council objected to the plans, saying that the access would not be suitable, they would have a negative visual impact on the night skies in the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the noise from the campsite could be intrusive to neighbours and walkers. However, Sedgemoor disagreed and in approving the proposal, the planning officer's report said: "The location of the application is such that it is well connected via the network of public rights of way into the Tier 1 settlement of Cheddar and the Mendip Hills."
