Planning news - and the application is in to close the Barclays Bank in Frome - the third bank to close on Market Place this year.

The bank will shut up on August 23, and under 2023/1368/LBC an application is in to take down all the signs and remove the cash point at 18 Stony Street.

It is a listed building hence the need for the planning application and in the application, the bank says nothing about the 'fabric' of the building will be altered, removed or concealed. All existing original features will not be affected by the proposed works.

In other planning news, an application is in for change of use to close the betting shop in Keyford and turn it into a dwelling. This is the Coral betting shop on the road up to The Crown pub, details under 2023/1251/FUL.

Also on the agenda, the application 2023/1411/CLP which is the proposed lawful development certificate for works begun within three years on planning application 2021/2437/VRC on land adjacent to The Retreat in Frome. Mr & Mrs B Sutton, who own the land and have already started to do some drainage work on it, have applied for the Certificate in respect of planning permission 2021/2437/VRC that was granted on 14th January 2022 to remove conditions 16 and 17 (Removal of Permitted Development Rights with respect to extension, roof, outbuildings or boundary treatments) of planning approval 2021/1083/FUL).

The area is nearly half a hectare, on the East of Frome and not far from the railway. It was the subject of a major campaign to keep it as a wild-life haven but, on appeal, the developers won the right to build four homes there.

This applications, and other planning matters, will be discussed at the Frome Town Council planning meeting on August 10. The agenda is HERE

Also expected, to be joining the meeting on line, the company planning to build a battery storage facility alongside Styles Close in Frome, details on that HERE
