Asda in Frome to increase capacity for collecting shopping without shoppers needing to go into the store

In planning news in and around Frome this week.

Asda supermarket on Warminster Road in Frome has three years to complete an application to make what it calls improvements to the existing home shopping scheme at the site.

It has got approval with conditions to move the Click and Collect system to another part of the car park, and to increase the number of bays for cars. In what the supermarket calls a new 'external home shopping pod' it will be installing a huge new chiller (290 sq.ft/27 m²) and a new freezer and putting in netting to protect the area from birds. It will be increasing the number of parking bays from two to five.

In addition to having to complete the work in a designated time frame, Asda will have to first create new parking spaces for those that will be lost when the home shopping area is moved.

In other applications made to Mendip planners:

The owners of Phoenix House, Flat 1 Dommetts Lane in Frome BA11 4JT have applied to work on several trees at the property, including felling a cherry tree there. Ref. No: 2020/1810/TCA on the Mendip planning site.

Tree works are also on the cards at Morgans House 3 Morgans Lane

in Frome. They have applied to cut back and reduce the size of three trees at the property. Ref. No: 2020/1811/TCA

The owners of 89 Mendip Vale in Coleford have applied to build a two storey rear extension in place of existing single storey extension and replacement of front porch. Ref. No: 2020/1719/HSE

In planning decisions made by Mendip this week:

Prior Approval has been refused on plans to change an agricultural building into a home at Mendip Farmhouse on Mendip Road in Stoke St Michael.

An application to create pedestrian access and railings at 1 Church Hill in Beckington (Ref. No: 2020/1378/HSE) has been approved.

An application to replace a bay window to the rear of Acacia House on Bath Road Norton St Philip (Ref. No: 2020/1413/LBC) has been approved with conditions.

There is no objection to an application to fell a bay tree at 115 Broadway in Frome.

There is also no objection by planners to an application to fell a willow tree at 5 Bath Road in Beckington.

There has been a non-material amendment to permission already granted to change Melrose House (No21) and Catherine Cottage (No21A) on Whittox Lane in Frome into two separate dwellings Ref. No: 2020/1578/NMA
