Westdown Quarry, the quarry on Bulls Green link road in Chantry.

There is evidence of quarrying dating back 500 years at the site but the main work at Westdown (and nearby Asham) is thought to have started in the 1940s – supplying aggregate to support post-war reconstruction. Although no activity has taken place at either site since the 1980s, planning permissions for the extraction of limestone remain in place until 2042. The company which owns the quarry says on its web site that if Westdown is eventually allowed to re-open, it will create an additional 40 full time jobs for local people as well as a number of indirect jobs through the employment of a range of contractors.
