In planning news this week in and around Frome.
Frome Town Council has agreed to pause the stage III of the Market Place regeneration, which includes plans on what to do around the town fountain, in order to carry out more consultations with local businesses and interest groups.
The council heard from one member of the public, that any development of that space, now under the ownership of FTC, may impact the Frome Independent. They pointed out that the market, which sees the whole centre of town closed to traffic, with stalls up and down the main streets, brings in 80,000 visitors a year and at least £3 million into the local economy. These figures, she added, exclude the impact on local hospitality and accommodation, and are five years old.
At the time of writing Nub News is still waiting to hear whether the Frome Independent will resume in 2021, with rumours that there is one planned for August.
The council also responded to a question about the development plans for two sites in Little Keyford and the pre-planning application proposals for Selwood Garden Community, which would see an additional 1,700 homes to the edge of Frome.
Frome Town Council's outline response is that the number of homes needs to reduced, that transport issues need to be addressed, with a focus on more provision for walking, and that the current Frome infrastructure such as the capacity of Frome Medical Centre and local schools, cannot support such a large expansion. You can read the full council statement by clicking HERE : the FTC site .
Once a formal proposal for Selwood goes to Mendip planners, Frome Town Council will be holding a meeting to get feedback from those in Frome and the response will be revised.
