Planning news in and around Frome this week :

Mendip planners are considering an application for a single storey art studio and garden room at The Coach House 1 West End in Frome.

Ref. No: 2021/1249/HSE

An application is in to remove condition 8 (concerning plot 3 which is for obscure glass on the north-west elevation) of planning approval 2016/2090/REM. That is for application for approval of Reserved Matters (scale, appearance and landscaping) following outline approval 2010/2837 for the erection of ten homes on land adjoining 70 and 68 Beechwood Avenue in Frome. That application includes amended plans for Plot 9 and revised tree and drainage information from an application on January 23, 2017. It is open for comment under Ref. No: 2021/1088/VRC.

In planning decisions made this week :

Planners have approved an application to build an extension to increase the size and usability of existing washroom at the Saputo Dairy works on the Marston Trading Estate on Manor Road in Frome. The application was initially referred to the Ward Member because of initial objections from both Frome Town Council, the local councillor, who was concerned that it would lead to fewer trees on the estate and from the Local Planning Authority. But the initial proposal, planners explained " has been amended significantly to address those initial objections and

the scheme is now recommended for conditional approval."

Also approved, the application for confirmation of compliance with conditions 1-9 on permission 2014/0538/FUL, which is for the building of 12, two storey dwellings and associated works, at 1 Felsberg Close in Frome.

Meantime, what might interest those campaigning against development in Frome, in Bristol, the City Council is planning to build nine affordable micro homes on a former garage site. Using the former standing area in Horfield was, the council, argued, a good way to deliver affordable homes in the city.

They will be building Gap Houses - a contemporary, cost effective eco-home designed to fit onto urban garage plots. Standardised elements and factory production allow these homes to be produced in volume off-site, reducing disruption to neighbourhoods.

The city's mayor has described Bristol lack of affordable as a "ferocious" challenge, while the city has an estimated 2,000 garages on 300 sites.
