In planning news in and around Frome this week:

Planning decisions made this week include:

Approval has been given to convert a garage into habitable space and to build a single storey rear extension at 15 Magnolia Close in Frome.

A wide array of tree works have been agreed at Holme Leigh on Lower Street in Buckland Dinham. Planners have decided there is no objection to any of the tree works applied for, those include felling a Western Red Cedar, and a Hybrid Black Poplar and clearing one other tree on the property which has fallen over a river.

Planners have approved an application to vary condition 2 (drawings) of planning approval 2019/1550/FUL for work on a new building replacing an outbuilding at number 38 at Blatchbridge Roundabout on the road to Vinney Lane.

Over in Rode, Mendip has approved a plan to convert an existing office out-building into a self-contained annexe at The Rydings on Rode Hill.

They also have no objection to an application to fell a Robinia at Lavender House on Top Lane in Mells.

And in Marston Bigot an application to station a mobile home to provide affordable housing for family members at Crossways Cottage at 17 - 18 Tuckmarsh Lane, has been refused. Planners were told that while the local parish were sympathetic to the application there were reasons to refuse. Those given included that : " The site lies in the countryside, outside the development limits of any settlement, where development is strictly controlled. The proposal does not represent sustainable development owing to its distance and poor pedestrian accessibility in relation to local services and facilities, which would foster growth in the need to travel by private vehicle. "

Applications made to Mendip planners this week include:

The homeowners of 1 Styles Park in Frome have applied to cut back a Horse Chestnut raising the crown on the South/West side by one metre. Details under Ref. No: 2021/1533/TPO.

Over in Nunney, an application is in for the approval of details reserved by conditions 26 (Ecology), on planning consent 2020/0158/FUL, which is for land at Green Pits Lane on the Ridgeway. This is the application to build 82 homes on the site, put in by Barratt David Wilson South West.

And a major renovation project has been applied for by Downside School. They want to re-roof, re-lay parapet gutter, replace fenestration, remove soil-vent pipes and replace with inline tiles vents, redecorate and put in new rainwater pipes at the school on Fosse Way in Stratton on the Fosse . Details under Ref. No: 2021/1504/LBC
