Planning news in and around Frome this week:

Mendip has approved a big expansion at The Clinic on Millards Hill in Trudoxhill in Frome. They want to build an extension to the existing veterinary clinic; change of use of land to the north for outdoors consultations and exercise area; creation of lunge pen and fencing and associated works. In its note to planners the local council wrote in support saying : "The council voted to recommend approval of this well planned extension of a local business that will continue to provide employment in the area. "

The application to demolish the existing warehouse in Baker Street in Frome (next door to the butchers) and to build a detached house in its place has been approved. The plans are for a new home at number

9 Baker Street at the Badcox end of Frome. Frome Town Council had said about the application : "We regret the loss of this building as employment space, however we have no objection."

And an application for work at The Retreat in Frome, has been withdrawn. However this is only a technicality, a part to vary or remove several conditions, including details around the contamination of the land, on planning - itself a re-submission of 2017/2621/FUL. Plans for the site are still active and are pending the results of an appeal hearing. Those include the demolition of an existing barn and the building of three new live/work units and one new home.

Planners have approved a five day notice on a Tree Preservation Order to fell a Beech Tree at 18 Yeomans Lodge in Frome.

And in case you missed it, there have been several letters written to Mendip planning to oppose an application to remove hedgerows in Packsaddle Way.

You can read about that HERE : which includes a CPRE report on why hedgerows need to be protected for biodiversity
