In planning news in and around Frome this week:

Over in Beckington, an application is in to replace the existing rear extension with a partial two storey rear extension and associated internal adjustments at Pickford House at 23 Bath Road, which is a Listed Building. The homeowners also want to demolish the existing annex building and construct a new building on the same footprint. Open for comments under reference 2021/1805/LBC.

An application to build a single and two storey extensions, along with associated alterations to Hill View on Foghamshire Lane in Trudoxhill Frome, has been approved.

Planners have no objection to an application to fell the Ash tree at

Pennys Mill on Horn Street in Nunney.

The restoration of two churchyard lamps and installation of handrails and a gate to the church boiler room at the Church Of St Katherine at East Woodlands near Frome can go ahead, planners have decided. In their report they said that the distinctive lamps need to be restored to ensure their long term preservation.

In the application it is revealed that the church was built so that the workers at the Longleat Estate did not need to go into Frome to attend a service. The church, which according to the parish records is still well attended, is listed Grade II* and was constructed between 1711 and 1714 by Thomas, Viscount Weymouth, for the benefit of parishioners who previously had to journey into the centre of Frome for their parish church.

The lamps require sensitive and careful restoration by a specialist and

therefore the PCC have contacted Iron Art of Bath (Traditional Ironworkers) to carry out the required works.

Planners have also approved works following fire damage at Prospect House on the White Post to Charlton Road in Charlton. The house was badly damaged by a serious fire in December 2020, which is thought to have started in the basement and caused considerable damage to the main front (which is Listed) section of the property, including the main staircase, and floors and walls. The homeowners had applied to restore the home to its original state, without any further alterations.
