And David Wilson Homes South West has released this about its home plans in Frome.

Plans for much-needed new housing on the edge of Frome have been approved in principle by Mendip District Council's planning committee. Almost a third of properties on the David Wilson Homes development will be affordable.

Work is expected to start at the 13-acre Keyford site later this year. The development will incorporate 118 homes, all of which will include solar panels, along with new green open spaces, two new play areas and integrated pedestrian and cycle routes. Situated adjacent to the B3092 in an area known as The Mount to the south of the historic market town of Frome, the development's two, three and four bedroom homes will suit a range of residents and buyers and encourage a diverse, balanced and sustainable community. In addition, an outline planning application has been approved in principle for a residential scheme, subject to detailed design, at Little Keyford, to the west of The Mount. Designs for the new communities have been developed in consultation with the local community to reflect the character of the area and include a range of green credentials. Materials will include reconstituted stone in a colour and character in keeping with the local area plus dressed stone window and door surrounds that harmonise with the local vernacular. Keyford and Little Keyford are well located for sustainable travel with Frome within 2km cycling distance meaning a wide variety of amenities are easily accessible. To the north-east of the site is the National Cycle Network route 24 and to the north is a direct cycle route to the nearest secondary school. In addition, to help residents make sustainable travel choices, David Wilson Homes will provide residents with travel vouchers for use on local transport. In line with David Wilson Homes' commitment to become the UK's leading national sustainable housebuilder, the developments will include a range of measures to enhance biodiversity and protect local wildlife including several resident bat species. Existing hedgerows throughout the development will be preserved wherever possible as commuting routes for wildlife. A green corridor will extend from north to south through the Keyford scheme and a significant area of additional green landscaping and tree planting to the south will provide further wildlife habitat. David Wilson Homes is also contributing towards highway safety and improvement works at Gorehedge junction in Frome and the White Row and Beckington roundabouts on the A361. Managing director for Barratt David Wilson Homes South West, James Dunne, said: "We are delighted that our plans to build much-needed new homes in Keyford have been approved in principle. We've worked closely with the local community and local authority to ensure these new communities will be sustainable, ecologically sensitive and carefully designed to complement and reflect the local area and the historic town of Frome. We are proud to create a cycle and pedestrian friendly development that encourages healthy lifestyles as well as protecting and enhancing local wildlife, including the local bat population."
