Planning news in and around Frome this week includes:

At North Hill House in Fromefield, Frome, which is a listed building, an application is in to remove the flat roof section of the building and to replace it with a new insulated flat roof system, to take out the existing rooflights and replace them with new roof domes. Stoneleigh House appears on 1813 map of Frome but has the appearance of a circa 1830 building. A change of use application for the conversion of office into residential use was approved in 2002 and then later in 2004, a sports hall extension was built. Details on this latest application under reference 2022/0750/FUL

An application is in to approve the details of materials being used, including the roof tiles, of the new homes just off the Nunney Catch roundabout. Eighty two new homes are being built on the site by Barrett David Wilson homes. Planning for the homes including landscaping, open space, drainage and highway access (Ref: 2020/0158/FUL) was granted in 2020 and the new homes are already being marketed. This application is for condition 5 (Materials - Submission of Schedule and Samples) for the work underway on the land on Green Pits Lane.

Over at Orchardleigh golf club, which is on the way to Buckland Dinham, an application is in to vary condition number 10 & 11 of permission 2018/2611/CNT in order to extend the time period allowed for depositing inert material on the site from six months to a period of 5 years from the commencement date. Back in 2018, planners ruled there was no objection to a plan to bring in soil to level land at the site which would be used for the golf driving range.

At 35 Cranmore View in Frome an application is in for a non-material amendment to permission 2021/2563/FUL for the change of materials to the external walling. Planning is for a single storey side extension at the property.

At White House on Leigh Street in Leigh On Mendip an application is in to convert and extend an existing garage to form a one bed annexe. Plans and details under PP-11237829.

In Beckington an application is in to approve reserved details including materials to be used on the renovation and alterations to the Coach House at Clifford House at 21 Bath Road. The homeowners are planning on building a detached garage and a new garden shed at the property. Ref. No: 2022/0978/APP

In Great Elm at Newlands Farm, a planning application is in for external and internal alterations to the main house to include roofing, windows, doors, guttering and downpipes. Work includes putting in a new bathroom, a new en-suite and a dressing room. Details under 2022/0643/LBC.

In Chewton Mendip an application is in to convert two barns on Romead Road into a two-bedroom and three-bedroom dwelling. Details under reference 2022/0120/FUL which is now open for comments.

And in case you missed it there is a lot of opposition to plans to build 150 homes up across from the mini roundabout at Sainsbury's in Frome. Read the details HERE:

And yesterday the government laid out proposals in the Queen's Speech (May 10) to allow the public the right to vote on proposed property extensions in their area. The new planning reforms, which Labour have said are just a gimmick and not possible to implement, will, said Minister Michael Gove help "build communities that people love and are proud of". The government has a target of building 300,000 houses a year in England by the mid-2020s.

In planning decisions made by Mendip :

Planners have approved the building of a single storey extension at 17 Trevithick Close Frome. Works will include building a new front porch, reduction in the size of existing windows and the installation of bi-folding doors.

Also approved, for the home owners of 8 Summer Hill in Frome, a ground floor rear kitchen extension and a replacement window on the first floor.

An application to build six new what are called Live-work units at Station Approach in Frome, has been withdrawn. The application also included plans to re-clad elevations of Units 2 & 4 on the site. Frome Town Council had objected to the plans saying that it was not the right location for residential development with too many potential noise and highway safety impacts from the adjoining businesses.

An application to build a four bedroomed home plus an annex on land at 374760 145302 Ridgeway Lane in Nunney, has been refused, although it had been supported by the parish council . One of the reasons given for the decision is that " The application fails to demonstrate that there are any special circumstances such as bringing forward any discernible economic or community benefits or an essential need to support a rural enterprise in this isolated rural location. As such, the proposed development would result in the unjustified and unnecessary encroachment into the open countryside causing material harm to the character and appearance of the area." The application was for land at The Stables on the outskirts of Nunney, previously refused back in 2013 and also then refused on appeal.

Planners have approved details reserved by condition 3 - (Materials), 11 - (Contamination Assessment), 15 - (Surface Water Drainage on planning consent 2021/0667/FUL (Demolition of existing warehouse ) (Ecology Report received 02.06.2021) on the building of a new house at Baker Street in Frome.

While in Kilmersdon, a loft conversion with rooflights can go ahead at 1 Manor Close.
