Home Bargains may be coming to Frome as part of a new development on the edge of town.

Construction is currently proceeding on 198 homes within the Keyford Meadows site either side of Sandys Hill Lane on the southern edge of Frome.

As part of the outline permission for the development, which was secured in July 2020, new commercial units will be provided at the western edge of the site, near the existing Wessex Fields retail units.

TJ Morris Ltd. has now applied to build the first of these new units near the Sainsbury's supermarket – with strong indications from the planning documents that it may end up being occupied by Home Bargains.

While the bulk of the application does not specifically mention Home Bargains, both the acoustic assessment and energy and sustainability assessments submitted are for the 'Home Bargains' store off Sandys Hills Lane

"The proposals will deliver a new, modern retail unit to accommodate a national retailer," the planning application said.

"The unit be of a high-quality design, with appropriate landscaping to mitigate against any visual impact."

Plans show the shop would be accessed from Sandys Hill Lane and 57 car parking spaces would be provided.

"The proposed development will make a positive economic contribution to the area, bringing a vacant site back into use," the application added.

"The new retail has the potential to create over 50no. new jobs together with representing significant private sector investment and improved consumer choice.

"These benefits are significant and should be afforded appropriate weight in the overall planning balance."

However, the plans have already been met with objections.

Concerns have even been raised by developer Curo which is building the nearby homes.

"At present we are concerned that the current application proposals would have an unacceptable impact on the living environment of future residents and therefore amendments are required to make the scheme acceptable," Curo wrote.

"We are engaging with the applicant direct in order to seek to resolve our concerns and understand that you have also requested changes."
