February sees the launch of the 'Plastic Free.Period' campaign which is a collaboration between Frome Town Council and Frome Medical Practice and focusses on alternative, sustainable period products.

The project kicks off with a free event on Thursday 3rd February, 7pm – 8:30pm, hosted by Cecilia Allon, an Environmenstrual Ambassador for Women's Environmental Network. All are welcome to attend, either in person at Frome Town Hall or online.

The session will cover many aspects, from the environmental impact of traditional products, what alternative sustainable options are available, not to mention the cost savings and where to buy products locally; participants will be able to make informed choices about which menstrual products to use.

Cllr Anne Hills said: "Being informed means you can make the right choices for you; what's right for one user won't be right for another and the many products discussed on the evening are all sustainable so will be good for the user and the environment. It would be great if we could make Frome a Plastic Free. Period town. We want to raise awareness of alternative products plus we've created a pledge on our website – why not attend this session, pledge and give them a try?"

The team have collaborated with Wuka who make period pants and will give away 5 sets! To be in with a chance of getting a free set, all you have to do is attend the event (online or in person) and take the pledge on Frome Town Council's website. The recipients of this giveaway will be notified once the data has been verified following the event. And that's not all, 50 pairs of period pants from Wuka will go direct to Fair Frome, purchased using funding awarded to the project from the Mendip Climate and Ecological Emergency Fund.

If you don't have access to pledge online, feel free to drop by the Town Hall from Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm (4:30 on a Friday), where you can pledge in person and be entered into the giveaway.

Once you have taken the pledge, you'll also receive discount codes for sustainable period products to buy either locally or online.

Further information can be found on Frome Town Council's website, where you can also register for the free workshop and take the pledge: https://www.frometowncouncil.gov.uk/plastic-free-period
