Frome Medical Practice will be starting its annual flu vaccination programme in mid-September and is inviting patients aged 65 and over to get in touch to book their appointments now. The practice will be offering weekday appointments, as well as regular Saturday morning clinics from 17th September.
Senior Partner at the practice, Dr Helen Kingston, said, "The flu vaccine is a safe and effective vaccine. It's offered every year on the NHS to help protect people at risk of getting seriously ill from flu. The best time to have the flu vaccine is in the autumn or early winter before flu starts spreading and so we are encouraging our patients aged 65 and over to book their appointments at the earliest opportunity."
Flu vaccinations for those aged over 65
Appointments can be booked via the online booking system for those patients registered to use this (https://fromemedicalpractice.appointments-online.co.uk/) Alternatively, those aged 65 and over can contact the special Flu Line that the practice has set up on 01373 301300 after 2pm, Monday to Friday.
Flu vaccinations for those aged under 65 with a long term health condition or women who are pregnant
The practice will also be offering flu vaccinations to patients who are under 65 and who have a long term health condition, as well as to pregnant women. If you are in one of these groups, the practice asks that you wait for them to contact you inviting you to book your appointment. They will be in touch about this in the next few weeks, either by text or by phone call.
Arrangements for people aged over 50
The flu vaccine will also be available to all people aged 50 and over this year. Frome Medical Practice is advising these patients to book their vaccinations via their local pharmacist.
