Frome Town Council has received an invite from Acorn Property Group regarding a public consultation on the Saxonvale redevelopment.

It will be on May 25 - details on the poster.

The event is expected to be controversial for many reasons. The Acorn scheme, for 300 homes and commercial space was originally granted outline planning permission in January 2021.

But there is another rival plan for the site – a scheme for 182 homes, a lido and an arts venue, presented by Mayday Saxonvale.

Mayday Saxonvale is now taking the council to the High Court for a judicial review, contending that it "misrepresented" its own planning policies when granting permission for the Acorn scheme.

The site is being keenly fought over because it is the last major area in the centre of any town in what was the Mendip council area which is available to be developed.

Mendip bought two adjacent plots of land that were owned by Notts Industries and Terramond in 2018 - an area of around 9.2 acres.  The last factory to close in Saxonvale was in 2016. The Council exchanged a conditional contract for the phased sale of Saxonvale to Acorn to regenerate the site.
