Some impressive intense rainfall in the last hours of the day in Frome today (August 9).

The showers saw what local meteorologists calculated as rain falling at 175mm per hour at peak, with 8mm in ten minutes.

However most of the national weather forecasts did not have more than a warning of a quarter of that.

Cricket at Fromefield was called off due to the sudden waterlogged field.

Smart marketing for Country Life stores who posted within minutes of the last big shower at 6pm their advert for wellingtons and safety boots. The store on Nedge Lane in Chewton Mendip (telephone 01761 241270) had a tongue in cheek advert saying " Did someone say rain."

Tomorrow thankfully it will be a largely dry and bright start to the day for most areas. The sunshine will continue through the day, though there is a small risk of a shower in the afternoon.
