An extremely rare white pheasant, whose travels have been followed by the Frome community since it was first spotted, is no more.

Pheasant spotter Steve Lindow has been posting photos of the bird since he saw it on his cycle ride on March 8.

At the time hundreds of Fromies speculated about how and why the bird had appeared and wondered if it was a lucky omen?

But today (March 18), after not seeing it for a little while, he posted that he had found feathers close to where he had spotted the bird.

He told his many many pheasant followers: " It is with a heavy heart and deep sadness that I have to inform you all the Albino Pheasant has passed.

"I found the feathers strewn from where I saw it the other day to the other side of the track and down the embankment. "

In agreeing to let us use his lovely photos he told Frome Nub News : " Of course, this the People's Bird! "

He posted on social media that he would have like to give him / her a proper burial (of sorts), but the bank was too steep to be reached

He wrote: " So, it would seem the circle of life is complete for this creature.

Fly high my magnificent White Prince / Princess."
