During lockdown, this spring has seemed more magical than ever as our precious bit of outdoor exercise has made us really appreciate any encounter nature and we have enjoyed the wonderful sunshine. The countryside charity, CPRE Somerset, is encouraging people to send in their photos of the countryside on their doorstep or even just the nature and wildife in their gardens which they have been enjoying (safely) during the lockdown period.

CPRE Somerset Branch Manager, Becky Collier said "We decided to give our annual photography competition the theme of "Reasons to be Cheerful" for 2020 and it seems to have really captured peoples' imaginations.

"It has been such a treat seeing everyone's wonderful pictures and a great reminder of the wonderful countryside that is waiting for us when it is safe to return. For now, though, we are happy to share these pictures on our social media pages and hope that they make everyone feel a bit more cheerful. The prize for the best entry is £100 and there is still plenty of time to enter our competition as the closing date is the end of August. For details of how to enter, please visit www.cpresomerset.org.uk"

All the pictures shown here were sent in by father and daughter Rob and Maisie Wood from Frome and were taken mainly from their back garden over the Easter weekend.

Rob said "The lockdown is a challenging time for all of us, not least my teenage daughter who has Special Educational needs. One way she is able to forget and be happy is when she is messing around in the garden or out for a short walk with her camera or her phone camera. "These are just a few of the photos we have taken over the Easter weekend that remind us of how fortunate we are to live where we do and that, regardless of what else is going on in the world, spring is definitely here. And that is a reason to be cheerful".
