Social media in Frome has been busy in recent weeks with complaints about the price of rental property in the town.

Frome has long been a desirable place to live, but since late last year, the property market has been, as described by Frome Chamber of Commerce, " manic."

One agent, who did not want to be named, said they were selling double digits properties every week, with 80 per cent of them to families relocating from London.

And that seems to have had a knock-on effect on the price of rentals.

One poster summed up the problem writing : " It's a shame that there is such a demand for property. Three bedroom house regardless of area seem to be £900 plus. Insanity. "

There also appears to have been increases in the past due to homes being let on Airbnb. They wrote " Rentals eight years ago for family homes were around £650."

If you look on the Airbnb site, a one bedroom flat in Frome is being advertised for one night for £146.

On the national portal Right Move there are just 15 properties to rent in Frome (March 1) , with one three bedroomed home advertised for £975, another for £1,100, while the cheapest is for £850.

Nub News was told that in order to be sure of getting a property, tenants are expected to put in a bid within an hour for something they like and that there was a waiting list of people for every address that comes up.

There is a Frome plan to try and do something about the cost of living in the town.
