The Lane' welcomed Royal Wootton Basset RFC 2nds on a wet and windy Saturday afternoon, and with both sides in the top half of the league it promised to be a tight game.

It was Frome that started the better with good ball retention that put them into the away sides half. Flanker Joe Wildman setting out his stall with a great Jackal at the break down.

But it was the visitors that got the first try of the day on 8 minutes, with a good catch and drive crashed over the line, for a converted try.

Frome kept calm and began to put phases together and were unlucky not to break the line. Scrum Half Lloyd Penny kept up his good form from recent weeks and showed great awareness with a nice kick to the corner, followed up with a good chase from Bailey Rusz and Daryll Thompson, which won a line out in a good position.

Then on 20 minutes Frome's produced the best move of the game, moving the ball across the pitch with good possession the Forwards set up the Backline to attack. Fly Half Ben Eley passing to Rusz sweeping behind the line who stepped a defender to offload to Thompson who fixed the last defender to put Winger Ben Tiley in for a walk over Try in the corner. The conversion going just wide.

Frome piled on the pressure again and were starting to get a hold of the game, the Forwards were winning the collision area well and keeping their discipline in defence, Eley commanded the game well from Fly Half, and on 34mins from a great position, Eley fed Wildman who ran a great line and showed some real pace to score under the post.

From the kick off, the Forwards set up a great platform for the Backline, and with great line breaks from Centres Matt Warnock and Ethan White, the home side were getting in behind the visitors defence more and more.

Then on the brink of half time Full Back Thompson was put through the gap by White, and with a lot still to do, he made a scintillating run beating multiple defenders before stepping the opposition Fullback to dive over under the posts. Conversation by Eley added.

But if the home side needed reminding that Royal Wootton Bassett were above them in the league, they gave the home side a reminder, straight from the kick off, they were able to turn the ball over and took their chance well, finding a gap in the home side's defence crossed over for their second.

Half Time Score: Frome RFC II 19 - 14 RWB II

Frome went into the second half with no changes, and set to work with the same intensity as they had in the first half. On 45mins the home side were awarded a Penalty and Captain Owen Davies opted to take the opportunity to get the score board ticking over. Eley kicking the 3 points.

Royal Wootton Bassett then had their turn to put pressure on the home side line, but Frome weren't in the mood to let their line be breached just yet and some great tackles by the Forwards defended their line well, turning defence into attack with a turnover, a strong run by Winger Rusz who beat off three defenders before being pulled down on the half way line.

This would be his last say in the match, as the Home side made their changes. Rusz for Kyle Williamson, Lloyd Penny for Harry Burge and Jason Barraclough for Mark Regler.

From the following Scrum Frome were awarded a Penalty and on 60 mins Eley kicked the 3.

On 66mins, defending their try line, Frome were under pressure and adjudged to have been offside at the breakdown which saw Burge shown a yellow card, shortly followed by Regler being shown a yellow for the same offence.

So with only 13 men on the pitch the visitors saw a way back into the match and they crossed the line on 70mins.

Royal Wootton Bassett sensed that Frome were there for the taking and threw everything at them, but on 72mins, Frome Frome Scrum on the 22, Centre White crashed through the line and carried well, putting a well placed kick through for Wildman to gather and showed excellent pace and ran it in for try. Eley converted.

With the two Frome players returning to the field of play, the rest of the game was played out in the middle of the park, before the whistle blew and the home side secured a well earned win against a very well drilled side.

Final Score: Frome RFC II 37 - 21 Royal Wootton Bassett RFC II

Frome RFC's man of the match award, sponsored by The Old Bath Arms, Frome went to Joe Wildman.
