The RSPCA is investigating after a tiny dachshund puppy was found abandoned in Somerset.

The poor pup - who is thought to be around eight weeks old - was taken to RSPCA Brent Knoll Animal Centre on Thursday November 16 by a member of the public who had found the tiny dog at Woolavington Sports Pavilion.

RSPCA inspector Jo Daniel, who is investigating for the animal welfare charity, said: "Little Will is believed to have a disease called puppy strangles which is not contagious and is hopefully treatable.

"To be dumped seemingly in this way is incredibly sad especially when Will is in ill health and in need of care and attention. We'd like to find the owner to find out exactly what has happened here."

If anyone recognises him or has any information on who his previous owners were, please contact the RSPCA inspectorate line on 0300 123 8018, quoting incident number 01185381.

Little Will is one of many abandoned animals who have arrived in the care of the charity after animal abandonments incidents have soared to a shocking three year high as the RSPCA warns unwanted pets face a bleak winter.

This year the RSPCA is asking supporters to Join the Christmas Rescue by donating to help rescue teams reach the thousands of animals who desperately need them.

The combined effects of the pandemic and a cost of living crisis have meant more animals than ever will need the RSPCA's help this year. That's why the charity needs supporters to join the Christmas rescue and help them be there for animals as neglect and abandonment soars.

The RSPCA is raising awareness of the shocking reality facing abandoned and neglected pets this festive season - with the launch of its new Christmas film. Join the Christmas Rescue and help the RSPCA be there for animals as neglect and abandonment soars.
