On Saturday the Frome RFC 1st XV travelled to Yeovil RFC for round four of Counties 1 Tribute Southern South, and with Frome still looking for their first win of the season this was a much anticipated game for the men in red, white & black.
It was Frome that started the better of the two sides when they built good field position to go over for the first points of the day with a break by Captain Geoff Taylor who dived over after a break, the conversion attempt by Fly Half Darrel Thompson going just wide. (0-5)
Frome Front Row of Taylor, Chalmers and Fletcher dominated the early encounters, with Alex Mallon, Harry Bridle & Josh Hills all carrying well.
The match saw the anticipated return of Centre Ali Frost who has been sidelined with injury, and it want long until he was back in form with his first try if the day, Thompson converting (0-12)
HT: Yeovil RFC 0 - 12 Frome RFC
It was the home side that came out the blocks better and worked their way into the Frome 22 and eventually found space to cross over for a converted try. (7-12)
With star Full Back Henry Bull side lined for a few weeks, Simon Westlake slotted in and worked well with his back three combination of Simon Finch and Tom Weston.
Frome reacted well and were soon in for another score with Frost crashing over, the conversion going just wide of the posts (7-17)
Frome's backline saw Winger Sam Cassidy move into the Centres who showed a fine display in both defence and attack.
A converted try was scored not long after by Second Row Stevan Randall with Thompson adding the conversion (7-24)
Yeovil came back with two quick tries after some confusion in the back three (21-24)
Frome scored another try with Frost dotting down for a hat trick, the conversion being missed. (21-29)
FT: Yeovil RFC 21 - 29 Frome RFC
Frome Captain, Geoff Taylor commented "With the opening three games not going how we, as a club and a team would have hoped, picking up our first win of the season was a great result for us. The boys have been working hard on and off the field to improve on our recent performances and this result is a credit to that. We will look to build on this momentum and continue to work hard as we now move our focus to hosting Avonvale at The Lane this upcoming weekend."
Player of the Match was awarded to Frome RFC Second Row, Stevan Randall.
This weekend Frome RFC welcome Avonvale RFC to The Lane.
