Local charity fundraiser Rachel Clark is calling on the community to join her in walking or running a virtual reunion mile this Friday 29th May, revisiting her 2019 challenge '365 miles for WHY', to raise funds for cancer counselling charity We Hear You.

Rachel says:

"Friday 29th May will be the anniversary of my mum's death, it's this time of year that I usually organise a big community charity event in Frome in her memory. I just can't let the time pass without doing something for others, and something for Mum. So I'm asking anyone and everyone (of any age) to take part in a virtual mile for WHY that day where ever you are in the world! You can run (or walk) alone, with family from your household or one other friend/family member from a different household.

You MUST not organise a gathering. The idea of this is you run a mile at whatever time that suits you on that day! I just ask that you wear a WHY t-shirt (if you have one), take a selfie for me and make a donation via the link to WHY (however small).

Communications Officer at WHY, Lucy McMahon said:

"365 for WHY was a huge part of a very successful 25th anniversary year at We Hear You and we're so grateful to Rach for raising a huge amount of money for us, and also for raising awareness of WHY and the work we do to support those affected by life-threatening conditions. We're still running all our services via phone and online and have added new services to support people coping with Covid-19, yet our ability to fundraise is hugely reduced and we face a shortfall of up to £70,000 this financial year, so any donation, however small, counts. Thanks to Rachel, lots of you have one of our t-shirts...so please come along this Friday, walk or run your virtual mile and tag us in your 'virtual mile selfies' on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to fill our day with colour and revive a bit of the amazing spirit of 365 for WHY!"

"In other news, the results of the Institute of Fundraising awards will be announced at 11am on Friday and Rach is a national finalist in the Fundraiser of the Year category...she's already a winner to us, but we're keeping everything crossed that she gets some well-deserved recognition on Friday, keep your fingers crossed!"
