Frome Town Council Shaping the vision for active travel

By Guest 24th Jun 2021

Earlier this year, Frome Town Council successfully secured £75k from Somerset County Council's Climate Emergency Community Fund with part of the funding being allocated to a Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP).

A Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan will create detailed and joined up infrastructure designs that plan safe walking and cycling routes around and through the town; having a plan will unlock further funding to make these designs a reality in the future.

Frome Town Council is inviting Frome residents to get involved with the project and future plans by hosting an online workshop on Thursday 12th August from 7:30pm to 9pm. The session will then be repeated on Thursday 23rd September (7:30pm to 9pm).

At the workshop you will:

Learn about what a Local Walking and Cycling Infrastructure Plan is and why we are creating one for Frome

Gain an understanding of the importance of walking and cycling in climate security, health and prosperity

Become familiar with inspiring case studies to show what is possible within our town

Focus on potential approaches which will make a difference for walking and cycling in Frome

Share and discuss a walking and cycling vision for Frome

Cllr Paul Horton will be attending the workshops and said: "Frome Town Council supports and encourages active travel. The LCWIP is an important plan which will help our overall aim of reducing car usage and pollution and make cycling and walking the preferred choice for shorter trips. The thoughts and ideas gathered from residents at these workshops will feed directly into the development of future plans for active travel in Frome."

You can sign up to either workshop here: https://bit.ly/FromeLCWIP

A follow up workshop will be scheduled for November, where residents will get the opportunity to see the draft plan and will be invited to comment.
