UPDATED:

A Mendip District Council spokesperson said: "When the possible sale of the site was discussed at the Council's Asset Management Group, all potential uses for it were considered. It was felt that going through an auction process would give all interested parties the best opportunity to consider bidding for the site, given that the Council is under a legal duty to achieve best consideration on all disposals."

A parcel of land in Frome is up for sale - and while the auction has apparently been postponed for a few weeks - the local community say they were never consulted.

The land, at Feltham Drive is owned by Mendip District Council who have been accused of rushing through the sale of a key piece of green space which should never have been put up for sale.

The guide price for the land, part of the housing estate at The Mount, is between £40,000 - £50,000 which is for 122 square metres adjacent to 45 and 22 Feltham Drive. The green space is being sold as for development but needs planning permission first.

The local community association insist that they were never consulted on the sale - and that when the estate was designed in the 1960s the green spaces were incorporated into the plans to ensure that homes got light and kids were given places to play out.

Scott Ward who is a trustee for the community association that includes the Mount said they were not made aware of the sale plans.

Adding : " They have very sneakily pushed us this through as part of a going out of business sale of land in Frome. "
