Liberal Democrat-led Somerset County Council is encouraging Somerset residents to take part in a new Customer Panel that will help shape the future of council services in the county.

A key priority in the Lib Dem manifesto ahead of May's elections was "to listen to Somerset's residents so they know we are open and transparent and making informed decisions" and the Customer Panel is an important step in delivering on this priority.

The Panel will ensure the voices of the people of Somerset will be at the heart of decision-making as the County Council merges with four District Councils in April 2023 to create the new Somerset Council. Those interested in taking part don't require any specific skills, all that's needed is a desire to make services in Somerset the best they can be and to give constructive and honest feedback.

Cllr Val Keitch (Lead Member for Local Government Reorganisation) said "As Liberal Democrats we know the importance of listening to our communities and it is vital that the residents of Somerset are central to the planning of the new council. We made a firm commitment in our manifesto to be a listening council and I am delighted to be leading this important step in delivering on that pledge.

"Local people experience the Council's services first-hand and their feedback on how we can develop and improve our services is essential in making things better for everyone in Somerset. I encourage anyone who is interested to take part in the Panel to share your views at this really important moment for our County."
