Somerset is getting ready for a huge weekend of celebrations as the county marks Somerset Day on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 May — and there is plenty lined up to help you fly the flag.

In Street, The Street Inn will host a packed weekend of family fun, with vintage cars, motorcycles and tractors on display, a bouncy castle, a children's entertainer, and music from local DJs Jamie Mac, Bernie Locke and Felix. On Saturday night, Bertee and Friends will bring the basslines indoors for an evening party, promising a lively night to round off the day's events.

Meanwhile, over at Rich's Cider Farm near Highbridge, a brand-new two-day festival is launching. The Barrel & Bloom Festival will feature live music, food, drink, and family entertainment — with The Wurzels headlining Saturday's festivities before a family-friendly "Big Day Out" on Sunday.

The Big Somerset Picnic will also be taking place across the county, encouraging families, friends and neighbours to come together to share food and celebrate Somerset's rich heritage. People are being invited to either host their own or join one of many public picnics happening across towns and villages.

For food lovers, eat:Taunton returns to the town centre on Saturday 10 May, with more than 100 independent food and drink producers setting up shop across the high streets, alongside entertainment and street performances.

Elsewhere, events including the Langport Art Trail, the Somerset Real Ale and Cider Festival in Minehead, and Somerset Day celebrations at Wookey Farm, the Half Moon Inn and Our Shop in Hinton St George will make sure there's something for everyone across the weekend.

Communities and businesses are also being encouraged to join the "Fly the Flag for Somerset" campaign by proudly displaying the Somerset flag and bunting.

Somerset Day, held each year on 11 May, commemorates Alfred the Great's call to arms against Viking invaders and celebrates the spirit and strength of Somerset communities.

Nigel Muers-Raby, founder of Somerset Day, said: "This year's Somerset Day promises to be more exciting than ever, with a fantastic line-up of events that truly showcase the spirit of our county. Whether you're enjoying a picnic, soaking in the atmosphere at Rich's Cider Farm, or proudly flying the Somerset flag, we encourage everyone to get involved and celebrate all that makes Somerset special."
