You can't tell a book by its cover but you can discover what delights await the reader inside any of these pictured if you go to Wells Festival of Literature at Cedar Hall this October.

Look out for the festival brochure now available in venues in Wells and surrounding villages for a full list of speakers at this year's event.

From poets (Pam Ayres) to politics (Jon Cruddas, Geoffrey Wheatcroft) to thriller writers (Jonathan Coe) there's something for everyone with both afternoon and evening events.

There's also a Waterstones pop-up bookshop on hand so that you can buy a signed copy from any of the authors who may have inspired you.

The first weekend features not only some big names but a book group event with Cecile Pin, a new voice in fiction, and also the return of the popular quiz night.

Weekdays offer literary lunches, special author events for local youngsters, and competitions awards, while the final weekend ends on a high with stand-up comedian Paul Sinha.

Booking for Friends of the festival (who also get a 10% discount) opens on 29 July, and general booking opens on 5 August.

The brochure has full details of the festival which runs from 18-26 October or you can visit www.wellsfestivalofliterature.co.uk
