The Wells Festival of Literature is just around the corner, with a host of famous authors and speakers gearing up to visit the city from 18-26 October.

But with only days to go, there have been some last-minute changes to the line-up, offering fresh opportunities for festival-goers.

Tickets are selling fast for the popular event, so make sure to snap yours up before it's too late. Several talks have already sold out, with others expected to follow.

The first weekend promises plenty of variety, with satirical takes from author John O'Farrell, heartwarming reflections from physician Dr Rachel Clarke, and a thrilling discussion with TV star and author Louise Minchin.

Festival-goers can also test their literary knowledge on Sunday night with a quiz and buffet at The Swan Hotel, hosted by professional quizmaster Gary Wrigglesworth. If you think you've got what it takes, gather a team of six and see if you can come out on top.

As for the new names on the programme, festival organisers have confirmed that journalist Rafael Behr, medieval historian Helen Castor, and geneticist Adam Rutherford will be stepping in as replacement speakers. Rafael Behr will bring his survivor's guide to politics, Helen Castor will delve into the characters of Richard II and Henry IV, while Adam Rutherford will be discussing the evolution of family trees.

BBC Radio Somerset's Charlie Taylor will now join author David Horspool on Thursday, 24 October, to talk about the role of sport in shaping British society, following a late change to the programme.

Festival Patron Adam Rutherford will also be appearing on Friday, 25 October, to discuss family ties and the maths behind family trees.

Tickets and full programme details are available at www.wellsfestivalofliterature.org.uk or by calling 01749 834483 (9.30am-12.30pm weekdays).
