Young Somerset Board and STAR Trustees have unanimously agreed that STAR will transfer across to be part of Young Somerset on 1st April 2023. Young Somerset (YS) has always been committed to working in partnership with other organisations who share similar values to that of Young Somerset. On transfer the great work of STAR will continue but being part of Young Somerset, the largest Young People's charity in Somerset, would provide the service with greater stability and protect this work into the future.

STAR is a charity for Somerset children and young people designated as in need. Their aim is to provide funding opportunities for children & Young People 0-21 years, to build and develop resilience through taking part in music, sport art and recreational activities. Opportunities, often financially out-of-reach for many Somerset disadvantaged and vulnerable Children and Young People. Young Somerset, as a youth work charity, recognises the importance of positive activity and new opportunities for young people and we are keen to develop and expand the reach and impact of STAR's work.

"Maggie Forkes, Chair of STAR, thanks Young Somerset for agreeing to this partnership. STAR was finding it increasingly difficult to raise the necessary funding required to continue supporting our most vulnerable Young People. Without this merger, STAR would have undoubtably folded. This would have been a huge blow to the many Somerset services working with Children and Young People. STAR is extremely grateful to Young Somerset , and we will enjoy working together to provide this valuable support."

Nik Harwood, Chief Executive of Young Somerset, said, "We are excited to welcome STAR into Young Somerset and help maintain their work increasing access to opportunities for children and young people. We want to build on their amazing track record and enhance their work by closer alignment with our own provision."
