Summer As It Should Be

Local resident, Luke Newman, a highly experienced bushcraft and outdoor learning expert and working father, is no stranger to the challenges of filling long school holidays with energy-absorbing, inspiring and fun activities for eager children and super-busy parents.

His family experiences and deep connection to nature have inspired a series of full-day, summer holiday experiences for children, in the heart of the ancient Forest of Ammerdown, With shelter-building, fire-making, campfire-cooking, woodcraft, storytelling, lots of games and scheduled time to chill out under the canopy of the trees, Luke has developed a nestled-in-nature-connected 'woodland camp' to build old-fashioned childhood summer memories.

As well as promoting links between nature, health and happiness, Luke is well aware of the needs of busy working parents, and has built in an option, for those who need it, to drop off as early as 8.30am.

As Luke Newman, father and blended-family parent of two boys and two girls tells us:  "As parents ourselves we really 'get' that parents need to continue to work, secure in the knowledge that their children are happy and safe and, hopefully, a bit worn out and kind of muddy by tea-time too! For me, this is 'summer as it should be' – digitally free, connected to nature in a way that, for so many, is now lost. And, being part of a large family myself we have designed it to include such things as sibling lowered-cost and 5-day passes to make it as accessible as we can."

You can email Rhiannon and Luke at [email protected] and they will be happy get back to you with full details and answers to any questions about how your children can learn and play this summer.
