A temporary postmaster is set to keep Portway Post Office open while a permanent solution is found.

The current postmistress has resigned due to the expiry of her lease at Portway, Frome and the vacancy has been advertised.

Now there are plans for a temporary postmaster to operate the service from the existing location while the Post Office works towards a permanent solution.

However there will be nearly a month-long closure of the site until the temporary arrangement starts.

"There will now just be a short-term gap in service," a statement said.

The current postmistress will leave as planned on Friday 14 June at 5.30pm.

The new temporary postmaster will begin on Monday 8 July.

Antoinette Chitty, Post Office, network provision lead, said: "We know how important a Post Office is to a community and we are delighted that we have appointed a temporary postmaster to operate this branch whilst we work towards a permanent solution.

"This allows us to minimise the temporary period of closure for this branch."
