The Frome RFC 1st XV travelled to Sherborne RFC on Friday night for their first game of 2022, and with a number of changes due to injuries and isolation protocols, the coaches were looking forward to testing the called up players.

Frome started strongly but despite some early pressure were unable to put points on the board. Both sides had opportunities to score but the game remained scoreless for 20 mins.

Then the Sherborne Fly Half put a chip over the top which was gathered by their Centre who released the Winger, but a tackle in the corner from Full Back Darrell Thompson stopped a certain try, however from the ensuing scrum Sherborne pushed Frome backwards to score the first converted try of the evening.

The home side then kicked the ball deep in the Frome 22 from the kick off and put pressure on the Frome line which resulted in a penalty.

Sherborne took a quick tap and their Captain finished off the move close to the posts for another converted try the half time score 14-0 to the home side.

Frome started strongly in the second half and after a number of close calls, Captain Alex Mallon scored from the base of the scrum after the forwards had pushed the home pack backwards from a 5 metre scrum. Thompson converted to make the score 14-7

However, the home side responded immediately with an unconverted try and despite Frome's best efforts they were unable to breach the Sherborne line and 2 late tries left the final score 31- 7.
