The Old Bakehouse today (July 25)

The lovely Frome bakery - a step back in time cash only shop on Cheap Street - celebrated 50 years in the baking business this past weekend.

The Old Bakehouse got in the first dough on July 23 1977.

And now if you can answer three questions right about those first trading hours, the baker is offering ONE free cake .

The questions are : How much were the wages for that first week for the now 65 year old baker?

How much was his first pay rise (after one month) ?

And how much did the baker give to his mum from those wages for housekeeping !

As well as unique celebratory cakes, they also freshly bake every day breads, ranging from the traditional white and wholemeal to rustic flavours such as cottage cheese and dill and sun dried tomato, the selection varies on the whim of the baker Robin.

According to Discover Frome the Old Bakehouse don't use additives in their bread. They also use non-bleached flour and non-hydrogenated fat, all of which have a low salt content.

The original paperwork for the bakery - with legendary tarts and biscuits - in the window of Cheap Street.

The Old Bakehouse is a gem of a shop - Frome Nub News tip - try the frangipani tart.

But it is all good, old fashioned baking - here's hoping for a few more years yet.
