Thanks to the generosity of pupils at St John's School in Frome, the well of St Aldhelm - the founder of Frome - was looking glorious with flowers today (May 23).
This year coronavirus restrictions meant no annual blessing service which has been happening every year since 1985.
But the display - made from flowers given by pupils at the school - was created by the church and on the display, photos of many years of past ceremonies. In a nod to the changing modernity of worship, fast forwarded by coronavirus lockdowns, also on the display a QR code to take you to the video of 2020's ceremony. St Aldhelm founded a church on the site in AD 685, and the well is fed from the Gentle Street spring, which also feeds the Leat in Cheap Street. The tradition of well-dressing has been happening in Frome for many decades and always takes place on a date closest to the feast of St Aldhelm, which is on May 25.
