The new recycling plans get a positive response in Frome
Somerset Waste Partnership has been explaining the changes coming to Frome in terms of waste collections, pointing out that it will save money for the council, support the environment and provide a better service. They have been active on social media sites, reassuring communities and answering direct questions about how the new improved recycling will work, including giving details about the bigger bags used to collect all the new stuff that can be left out for collection.
As Frome Nub News reported, the town will be in the vanguard of moves to recycle more materials but offer less pick ups. All residents will be supplied with a 60 litre "reusable sack" to store their recycling.
In addition to materials which can already be recycled at the kerbside – such as paper, cans, glass and foil – items like TetraPak cartons, batteries and small electrical items will also be collected. Comments ranged from "Brilliant" to "A step in the right direction." The roll-out of Recycle More will be undertaken in five distinct phases and Frome will be one of the first. There have been many positive comments about the changes.
One Frome resident posted: " This is great, more things being collected for recycling is good thing surely (though less packaging is even better) We never fill our normal rubbish bins in a fortnight." But another resident commented: " I think a three weekly collection for mum's with nappies, women and girls with sanitary pads, and elderly and ill people with incontinence products is unacceptable and discriminatory, humiliating and unhygenic." Senior Communications Officer, Somerset Waste Partnership. Nick Cater said: " Change can be difficult for some - and we will be offering full support and a range of practical help for them - but not only did long-term large-scale trials in Somerset prove very successful (86% wanted to keep extra recycling and three-weekly rubbish at the end), results in other parts of the county have be positive. And Recycle More means far more recycling, far less rubbish, and better services with brand new vehicles (yes, less missed collections).
