The owners of Whatley quarry, near Frome, have today (Monday 02 October 2023) rebranded from Hanson UK to Heidelberg Materials.

The change is part of a global initiative, with all subsidiary businesses aligning with their parent company, which announced its new global branding in September 2022.

"It is only our name and branding that is changing," says Operations Manager Vincent Pitt. "Everything else remains the same, including our commitment to running our operations to the highest standards and being a good neighbour."

Hanson has been part of the Heidelberg Materials Group for 16 years, following its acquisition in 2007, but until now has retained the Hanson name.

New signage at Whatley will be in place shortly and will be rolled out on vehicles over the next two years. Whatley quarry has been operating since the 1930s and supplies crushed limestone aggregates by road and rail.

It is Heidelberg Materials' flagship quarry in the UK, employing more than 60 people directly and many more in it supply chain, and is also home to on-site asphalt and ready-mixed concrete plants.

Recent initiatives at the quarry include the roll out of a £10m investment programme in new plant and machinery as well as the completion of a circular walk around the site.

More information can be found at: www.communities.heidelbergmaterials.co.uk

Heidelberg Materials is one of the world's largest integrated manufacturers of building materials and solutions with leading market positions in cement, aggregates, and ready-mixed concrete. It works in more than 50 countries with around 51,000 employees at almost 3,000 locations.
