An update on engineering work in Frome.

Network Rail say that the work at North Row bridge that's the one you walk under coming from the Cheese & Grain car park is (as of December 29) " progressing well. "

The company posted on their social news channels that they are putting in a new timber deck and repairing the steel elements.

They are also replacing 170m of track and 670 tonnes of ballast (track stone).

The work is currently running behind. According to their own site, Network Rail teams started preparing the area for work back in October 2022.

While the main body of the work should have been carried out over the Christmas period 2022 and at a drop in session organised by Network Rail everything was due to be completed the 7th of January 2023.

At the time Jack Cleeves, Network Rail's scheme project manager, said: "The work to refurbish North Row bridge and upgrade the track is essential to the continued safe and reliable movement of freight, allowing customers and consumers easy access to goods while reducing carbon emissions."

He added at the time he appreciated the community's 'patience.'

Aside from becoming a target for graffiti the bars under the bridge have also been used as swings by locals.
