A new graphic map has been drawn to show the extent of the proposed development to the South of Frome, Selwood Garden Community (previously called Village).
Under the latest proposals by developer LVA, the area beyond Sainsbury's in Frome will be turned into what is described as 'mixed-use development', with around 1,700 new homes and employment space and additional social infrastructure.
Members of Frome & District Civic Society have been working on engaging Frome on what the scheme will entail and on their site there is an illustrative map which shows in stark detail how the site is being marked out.
It shows the total site area under discussion, a total of 800,318 sq.m, and how the area which will be covered by concrete, tarmac or buildings accounts for 634,500 sq.m or 157 acres.
That would leave a total 'greenspace' remaining 165,814 sq.m or 41 acres.
What is causing even more concern to critics is that the total hedgerows and trees retained under the plans amount to just 8.2 acres or 4.1% of the total area.
The reserved details of the plans for the area are due to be put into Mendip District Council by the end of this year.
