New home for Frome Toy Library

One of Frome's most well-loved community resources, the Toy Library, has found a new home.

Thanks to the generosity and flexibility of Vallis First School, the Toy Library will be running in the Vallis Community Room from 9.30am until 2.15pm on Tuesdays, starting on 1st October, in addition to its current session at the town's library.

After a busy summer running multiple school holiday special events and facing a number of challenges trying to find the perfect venue, the Frome Toy Library organisers are delighted to have been offered space at the community room, within the school premises on Milk Street.

Director Sue Willis said: "We are delighted by the warm welcome that Jacky and her team have given us.

"Our stay-and-play sessions and our whole ethos is that parents or carers should play with their children and that the little ones should be offered the chance to enjoy a safe and nurturing environment.

"The community room lends itself so well to our sessions - Vallis is already the hub and the heartbeat for many Frome families with young children so we are looking forward to seeing our huge range of toys bringing joy to as many local people as possible."

Members of Frome Toy Library, as well as attending its two weekly play sessions, can borrow any of the 46 hire-able play-sacks to take home as part of the annual membership fee.

Any family can apply to join as a member for £20 a year, in person or via the website, and there are special lowered prices of just £10 for the whole year for families on benefits, in order to make the service accessible to the whole town. The organisers are very keen to encourage new parents to join.

Frome Toy Library has a large, varied selection of both indoor and outdoor toys which are, wherever possible, made from sustainable and non-plastic materials.

In order to offer and continuously replace good quality playthings, the organisation relies mainly on community grants, funding, sponsors and donations.

Sue said: "We have been very lucky to receive some great support in the past year, but moving forward towards 2020 we are in need of new sponsors and donors so would encourage and welcome approaches from any local individuals or companies who would like to help."

Anyone wishing to join the Toy Library can find details via the red button below or just turn up and join in on Tuesdays at the Vallis Community Room or on Wednesday afternoons at Frome Library between 1pm and 3pm.
