Frome College has sent out an update on how they carry on, given the decision yesterday (January 4) that all schools - primary and secondary - will close.

Although earlier today the minister Michael Gove told reporters that exams would NOT go ahead, the Principal of the college Emma Reynolds wrote to parents saying that this was not certain.

She wrote to parents and carers that : " All year groups remain at home, learning remotely except those whose parents are critical workers or students who have been deemed vulnerable.

" We don't yet know exactly what is happening with exams in the

summer. Currently January public exams are still going ahead as planned.. adding that Year 13 mocks (which are the A level year) are suspended until further notice as to when students can

return to college."

The national lockdown announcement meant wide spread confusion for pupils and staff, although it was suggested by the Prime Minister that schools, are expected to remain closed until at least after February half term (which in Frome's case is February 22).

In Gloucestershire pupils were told by their teachers that confusion was on the timetable. She wrote : " I am sure you will be feeling confused right now and will have lots of questions about what lies ahead. Much of that is uncertain for all of us, but we are getting used to uncertainty and be assured that we will keep you updated once we know more details."

Meantime Frome College is continuing with its plans already in place to give all students who receive free school meals a sandwich meal from the main car park by the leisure centre between 1 and 2pm.

On Twitter the footballer and food campaigner Marcus Rashford expressed his thanks for all the teachers in the UK. He wrote : " Wanted to say how much respect I have for the teachers and assistants who have and will continue to dedicate their time to preparing food packages and printing vouchers to guarantee no child goes without. You play such an important role. Thank you."
