A first time performing in Frome - expect something special
A first time performing in Frome - expect something special

The artists performing at the HydeAway in Frome will soon be joined by talented singer song writer Brooke Sharkey.

Frome Nub News caught up with her as she readied for her performance on July 19 with the equally awesome Blythe Pepino who has played the HydeAway before.

So first of all Nub News asked about making a Frome debut?

" I mainly know Somerset through playing house concerts in Taunton and passing through on tour on my way further South West. I've always really enjoyed the landscape and especially passing through Glastonbury, it's a special place and I'm very glad to be coming back this way to play some new songs and collaborate with Blythe. It will be my very first visit to Frome.

And you usually live over in Norway?

"I am back because the UK is still my home, I love spending time here, with the landscape and people. Sometimes moving away for a little bit or a while shows us more clearly what's special about a place. It is full of passionate music lovers, creating music and nurturing spaces to host artists on the road. It's special in this way. Life and art always finds its way to bubble up through the surface. It is always beautiful and nourishing. "

So we have just finished, another, hugely successful Glastonbury Festival, but a couple of other festivals have closed up due to costs, is this something that worries you?

"I do feel concerned when I hear festivals are closing down due to costs. I am concerned about the communities around the festivals because of the loss of work obviously but also the disappearance of all the joy and connection that emerges when being in a field with other great people and lovely sounds. Festivals were a big part of how I developed and grew as a person and artist, and I would like to see them thrive and see them adapting to these new times. I may be a bit of an optimist but I have so much faith in people, their creativity and their capacity to create something new and who knows, more aligned with the earth, planet and creatures. "

If you know you know

And why should people buy a ticket to see you ?

"There are so many reasons to come! But I urge people to come see us play at the HydeAway because it will feel like a musical hug, due to the collaboration and location of the show. Blythe Pepino and I have been meaning for this to come together for some time, we are friends and big appreciators of each other's music. We will offer you our best and golly, is her best nothing short of awesome! (no pressure Blythe). I love her voice and music very much. You showing up will totally make a difference. "
