We are truly blessed in Frome to have an abundance of walks right on our doorstep. Whether it's a heritage trail taking in the history of the town or walking to the outskirts to take in our wonderful countryside, we are lucky that we have so many options. While we are still in lockdown and advised to stay at home, there are multiple walks we can join straight from our homes, with no need to use a car or break any rules.

Cllr Sheila Gore added: "There's nothing better than taking your daily exercise in the form of a brisk walk on a bright, crisp winter's day. In these darker months it's important for our mental health and wellbeing to get outside in the fresh air and, hopefully, sunshine! In the coming weeks as the days start to get a little longer and the spring bulbs start to bloom, why not take advantage of our lovely town by getting out and about safely (and socially distanced) by mixing up your walks using the resources listed here."

Discover Frome

First stop would be Frome Town Council's sister website Discover Frome. It hosts a library full of local walks, including a specific section on town and local walks, and all the parks and open spaces. While the regular guided walks are unable to take place there are lots of self-guided options. From a Walking Memories sound walk bringing stories of life and work in Frome alive to downloadable pdfs of maps covering the length and breadth of the town, there is something for everyone. Slow Ways

FTC Cllrs recently supported Slow Ways which is a project to create a network of walking routes that connect all of Great Britain's towns and cities as well as thousands of villages. Using existing footpaths, people will be able to use the Slow Ways routes or combine routes for long distance journeys when lockdown has eased. During the first lockdown over 700 volunteers created the Slow Ways map, it will be launched in spring and all routes will be free to browse, search, view, share and download to enjoy: https://slowways.uk/

Komoot

Ordnance Survey App

The trusty Ordnance Survey have an app with ready-made walks to explore. For a small subscription you can access OS Explorer and Landranger maps on any device making it easy for you to explore the great outdoors. Even without a subscription you can still see routes others have previously enjoyed. You can download the app from your relevant app store.
